Laurel’s story in digital marketing started before most people even knew what it was–including herself. “I spent a lot of time Googling things like ‘how to blog for business’ back in 2007 and 2008.” But learn she did, and quickly, rising to Assistant Vice President at PR 20/20, a digital marketing agency in Cleveland, Ohio, at the age of 26.
In 2013, she packed all her stuff, her dog, and her cat into a van and moved to Chicago to continue her career with a global commercial real estate firm, JLL, where she went on to lead the Americas Digital Marketing team. There Laurel learned how digital marketing works at large companies, with varied and sometimes competing interests. She knows how to balance best practices with the demands of internal stakeholders. She knows how to tell stories for everyone.
This is how Laurel has always been, though. From writing stories in crayon for her teachers (for fun, nerd alert) in elementary school to speaking at digital marketing conferences, Laurel shapes her message for the audience at hand. Driven by Tim O’Reilly’s mantra to “create more value than you capture,” she’s passionate about delivering meaningful marketing content for real humans. And for robots. It’s all about balance.
Outside the office, Laurel loves cooking, and blogs about it at omnivoreadventures.com. When she’s not rewatching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, that is. (The TV show. Not the movie.)
It’s all about stories. She’s excited to help you tell yours.
