Connecting Illinois residents to nutrition programs across the state

We Got You Illinois connects residents, no matter where they live in Illinois, to food and nutrition programs across the state. Users can find nearby food pantry locations, available nutrition programs and more– as well as learn more about program eligibility, how to apply and recent program changes.

The challenge

Connecting the right people to the right programs

Members of the Illinois Commission to End Hunger, as well as the the team at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, realized that there was no centralized location for Illinois residents to access information about available food and nutrition programs, including WIC, SNAP, food pantries and more. To meet this need, they came to Orbit. There were a few key challenges and goals:

We had a quick turnaround to get the word out about an upcoming Summer program
The site had to be accessible and readable for all- especially users on mobile devices
The site had to be easy to navigate, helping the right people get information on the right programs.

The fix

Intuitive navigation and accessible design

To help get this valuable information to Illinois residents in a timely manner, The Orbit X GCFD teams agreed on two separate launch dates- the first for a landing page that highlighted a time-sensitive program, and the second for the rest of the We Got You Illinois site. Here are some highlights:

The landing page went live in time to direct thousands of users to an underutilized food program.
The site was created with mobile users and accessibility in mind, featuring responsive design, color contrast, structured content and more.
Our web strategists created a simple and intuitive site navigation, making it simple to find specific programs, services and information.
