Hosting Package Definitions

Web Hosting Servers

Orbit hosts websites on servers running the Linux operating system and Apache web-server software and implemented using PHP and MySQL database software (LAMP). Orbit leases servers from Steadfast Networks that come with a 100% network uptime Service Level Agreement (SLA) and are located in fully redundant SSAE16/SAS70 audited Chicago data centers in downtown Chicago, IL.

Mighty-Site Shared Server Hosting

A shared hosting option is applicable to most of the low traffic sites that Orbit builds using the Mighty-Site CMS.  This package includes a shared hosting environment on dedicated servers leased from Steadfast.net.
  • Hosting is free with this package up to 1GB of storage space per website
  • Additional storage space is $10 per 1GB of up to 6GB of total space

Drupal & WordPress Shared Server Hosting

A shared hosting option is applicable to most of the low traffic sites that Orbit builds using Drupal or WordPress CMSs.  This package includes a shared hosting environment on dedicated servers leased from Steadfast.net.
  • Hosting is $75/mo for this package up to 1GB of storage space per website
  • Additional storage space is $10 per 1GB of up to 6GB of total space

Cloud Hosting

The Cloud Hosting option is best for high performance load websites and medium traffic websites with large spikes.   Cloud hosting is similar to a traditional Virtual Private Server environment with additional scalability features. Every Cloud account can be individually configured to automatically increase performance to handle traffic spikes. For these reasons, this solution is typically offered for ecommerce websites requiring integration and specific security configuration. Pricing depends on the specific needs of the website due to storage, performance and bandwidth.

Dedicated Server Hosting

Dedicated server is a good option for high traffic sites and clients with multiple high performance websites.  If it is determined that a dedicated server is required, Orbit will consult with the client to agree on an appropriate server environment.  Pricing depends on the specific needs of the website due to security, performance and bandwidth.

Failover Backup Server Hosting

The Failover Backup server is a way to provide a secondary hosting option if the primary server fails for an extended period of time. The failover server is hosted with another data center besides SteadFast in the event that the entire SteadFast network fails. Typically, this server can be a VPS or Cloud server and is upgraded to handle the incoming traffic. This DNS failover is managed by Orbit and can happen automatically or manually depending on client needs.
  • Full-Site Failover Hosting includes a VPS/Cloud server - pricing depends on the specific needs of the website due to security, performance and bandwidth.
  • A Single-Page Failover option could also be used for short periods of site downtime due to server issues or website maintenance.
  • DNS Management Services are required for this service (See Below)

DNS Management Services

Orbit offers DNS Hosting with DNSMadeEasy.com. Domain monitoring and Failover Services are available with DNSMadeEasy.com.
  • DNSMadeEasy.com provides services to monitor the uptime of the primary website.
  • Upon failure of the primary site, the DNS record is updated to the backup website IP address in another server.
  • If configured to be automatic, upon consecutive fails, the DNS will automatically change to the backup server IP address.
